For a lot of people, they look at showers and judge it based on what they see. As a tile guy, I will look at a shower and have millions of questions to judge it correctly. What backer board did they use? Did they waterproof it? Is it water in water out system or a sealed system? There are many ways to make sure your shower is waterproofed but only if the method is done correctly and the installer has the knowledge. What do I use? For 99.9% of the time, I use Schluter. The backer board is already waterproofed and you only need to waterproof the seams and screw penetrations. Other than the big name and helpful reps the product has a lifetime warranty which is huge! I want peace of mind when I’m prepping your shower and know they will stand behind their product. The confidence is in the knowledge. Before using the product I questioned everything! I went to their training and researched the heck out of it! The big takeaway from this is to make sure your tile installer cares and does the right thing. If someone skimps on the waterproof portion of the shower it’s going to be bad and cause serious damage! Here’s prep to finish on an HFtile shower.
