Tile Talk! Shower Remodel Cost!

Every person embarking on the journey of getting their shower redone will have this question! “What will it cost me!!?” Of course, I won’t be able to tell you exactly what your shower will cost I can, however, give you an idea. Unless you do it for a living or have paid for the services before you could have some unrealistic numbers in your head. Which is expected! How else would you know what a new shower should cost!?

There are so many variables that are going to raise or lower your cost for a new shower.

-Tile selection. Not all tiles are created equal! Some are way harder to cut and install. Glass tile for instance needs a special blade and lots of polishing to ensure a great looking cut thus making it more time-consuming. Ceramic tiles, on the other hand, are a lot easier to cut making them more cost-effective to install.

-Size of area. This is pretty straight forward! The larger the area the higher the cost. More materials more time equals a higher price.

-Design. Creativity is beautiful but also time-consuming! The truth is some patterns and designs are very changeling from an install perspective. Patterns like herringbone, chevron, and Versaille take lots of planning and layout to execute correctly.

So that being said the price of your new shower has a lot to do with your choices and vision! Are you going to go with a straight forward subway tile laid in a brick pattern? Or are you going to use glass tile with a herringbone pattern? The beauty? There’s no wrong answer it’s what you like and want! So let’s dive into the ballpark numbers of a simple shower and a high-end shower.

The simple subway shower! Nothing wrong with a simple classic! It’s a 3x6 ceramic shower with a niche and a hexagon mosaic floor. Standard size at 3 feet by 5 feet and 8 feet high. So we will say about 100 sqft of wall tile and 20 sqft of shower floor tile and a curb. We have the demolition of the old shower, new plumbing, waterproofing, and tile install. That’s a simple list but you get the picture! You can be expecting Somewhere around $4,000-$7,000.

The high-end shower! You are going all out! Crazy creative design and high-end tile that requires special treatment to cut and install. You have all the extra features like double niches with shelves and a bench. Same size as the simple subway shower but it’s curbless adding another technically difficult element. You're going to be looking at $10,000-$15,000.

I hope that helps give you some insight into the cost of a shower remodel! Keep in mind that updating your shower is also an investment. Bathrooms and especially showers are a huge selling point for buyers if you plan on selling your home at some point. On the other hand who doesn’t want a beautiful shower that was created by their own vision to enjoy the rest of their lives?? Thanks for reading!
